Iranian Instagrammer Sahar Tabar was freed on bail just days after being sentenced for ten years of jail time on charges of "obscenity". Popularly known as "Zombie Angelina Jolie", the 19-year-old Instagrammer's sentencing had made global headlines last week. Masih Alinejad, a journalist from Iran who broke the news about Tabar's sentencing says that her release was a result of "massive media pressure".

Tabar, whose real name is Fatemeh Khishvand, rose to fame in 2017 after it was alleged that she used cosmetic surgery to look-like actor and filmmaker Angelina Jolie. Her Jolie-look-alike photographs helped her amass close to 486,000 followers on Instagram and the nickname "Zombie Angelina Jolie".
Last year though, Tabar was arrested and charged on accounts of blasphemy, instigating violence, encouraging young people to commit corruption, and acquiring money through illegal means. On December 11 Alinejad tweeted that Tabar has been jailed for 10 years. "Sahar Tabar is only 19. Her joke landed her in jail. Her mother cries every day to get her innocent daughter freed," Alinejad added in her tweet.

The journalist also requested Jolie to help Tabar out, "Dear Angelina Jolie! we need your voice here. Help us.”
In a separate tweet, Alinejad alleged that "Islamic Republic has a history of tormenting women. We need to be united against this gender apartheid."

Sahar Tabar's claim to fame
Tabar has said previously that being famous had been a childhood dream of hers and that she built her Instagram profile even though her mother was not in favour of her decision. While earlier when her photographs had gone viral Tabar had claimed that she had undergone multiple surgeries to look like Jolie, she later admitted that her ‘unusual look’ was mostly achieved via makeup and photoshop. “This is Photoshop and makeup. I paint my face in a terribly funny way every time I publish a photo. It is a way of expressing yourself, a kind of art. My fans know that this is not my real face.” Tabar said.
