"It's a stereotype that cops do not or will not like to head the handicrafts corporation. As a Kannadiga IPS officer, I have great pride in our native handicrafts of the state. I can relate& interact with artisans just like one of their own. As a woman I'm interested in aesthetics," says IPS D Roopa who took charge as Managing Director at Karnataka State Handicrafts Department.
The first lady IPS officer of Karnataka, D Roopa Moudgil was recently appointed as Home Secretary to Government of Karnataka. She is a 2000 batch IPS officer who is currently holding the post of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Railways, Bengaluru. She will soon replace Umesh Kumar, a 1995-batch IPS officer, as Home Secretary in the state.
The latest transfer to the Handicrafts Corporation comes in the middle of a controversy. As per Print, Karnataka IPS officers D Roopa, Hemant Nimbalkar were transferred after they spar over ‘corruption’. Where D Roopa has reportedly accused Nimbalkar of favouring certain interested players during the tender process of the multi-crore ‘Safe City Project’.
