Indonesian Influencer Laura Anna, Who Was Battling Partial Paralysis, Dies At 21

Edèlenyi Laura Anna, an influencer from Indonesia who was documenting her story of being partially paralysed on social media, has reportedly died at the age of 21. The update was given by her sister in an Instagram story, as per local reports. Anna passed away early morning on December 15. Reasons behind her death have not been made publicly known.

"My beloved younger sister Edelenyi Laura Anna passed away at 09:22am. I ask for your prayers and forgiveness if my younger sister made mistakes during her life, thank you," Anna's sister Gréta Irén wrote. In another story, Irén added she was willing to lose her sister as long as she was not "sick anymore."

Tributes are pouring in for the influencer on Instagram, where Anna had over a million followers who tuned into her journey as a "spinal cord injury fighter."

Anna made national headlines in her country in December 2019 after being involved in a serious car accident that left her paralysed with a spinal cord injury. As per Jakarta Post, she was commuting from a party with her ex-boyfriend Gaga Muhammad, also an influencer, who was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

While Muhammad escaped the accident without major injuries, Anna dislocated her cervical vertebrae and became paralysed from the waist down. Reports suggest Muhammad neglected her post the incident, even as she was burdened with medical expenses. Anna started a crowdfunding page to cover her hospital costs.

Until that point, Muhammad and Anna had been the image of an influencer power couple in Indonesia among fans, with the situation turning bitter post the accident.

Anna and Muhammad were engaged in a legal battle at the time of the former's death. Muhammad, according to reports, has been in police custody since November this year following Anna's case against him of negligent driving.

The 21-year-old joins a string of other influencers who died shockingly young this month. Serbian influencer Kristina Dukic recently died at the age of 21 following a long-term period of being cyberbullied. While reasons behind her death were unclear, a statement from her mother comprising a suicide support message indicated the influencer allegedly ended her life. In India, influencer Shreya Muralidhar who was also in her 20s died of a cardiac arrest.  More influencer deaths from 2021.
