Indian Women's Cricket Team beat England in a nail biting semi-finals on August 6 by four runs and entered the finals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. All rounder Deepti Sharma and bowler Sneh Rana contributed majorly to this win.
The Commonwealth Games 2022 Birmingham edition are going on and currently India is enjoying a strong position on the performance chart with major wins in weightlifting, lawn balls, judo, long jump and squash. Another big news in India's favour came on Saturday, August 6 when the Indian Women's Cricket team defeated England in the semi-finals of the tournament. The match was being played in the Edgbaston stadium and bowlers Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma stole the show with their amazing skills.
Indian Women Cricket Team In CWG Finals, Deepti Sharma-Sneh Rana Shine
India won the toss and decided to bat first. The team scored 164 runs with the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana scored a half century, the fastest so far in the tournament, and gave the team strength with her 66 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues made 41 runs and stood the ground till the end while Deepti Sharma made 22 runs and was sent to pavilion by England's Katherine Brunt. The second innings were intense with Nat Sciver and Amy Jones trying hard to get England the lead.
Sciver made 41 in 43 balls while Jones scored 31 in 24 balls and along with Danni Wyatt's 35 runs, the team could only score 160 in 20 overs with the loss of 6 wickets, making India the winner. The last few overs were made interesting by Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana who took 4 major wickets of Brunt, Jones, Wyatt and Alice Capsey while Deepti Sharma took the credits of LBW of opener Sophia Dunkley.
Cricketer Virender Sehwag congratulated the team on Twitter and wrote, "Brilliant stuff from the Indian Girls. Maza aa gaya. Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma were brilliant in the last few overs and a spectacular win to beat England in the semifinals. Will be rooting for our girls in the finals tomorrow @BCCIWomen#IndvEng"
The team confirmed another medal for India and it will be interesting to see the gold chase during the finals that will take place on August 7 at around 9:30 in the evening. India is currently on the fifth position in the rank chart with 26 medals out of which 9 are gold, 8 are silver and 9 are bronze.
