An Indian national woman was found dead in floodwaters on February 16 in Australia's Queensland. The Indian High Commission in Canberra said on X (Twitter) that the woman, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, died in the floods near Mount Isa, Queensland. The Commission expressed condolence to her family and stated that they are in touch with them for assistance. The Indian Commission is yet to disclose more details on the case.

Queensland has been facing a precarious few days amid torrential rains and flooding. "Severe Thunderstorm warning for people in parts of Sunshine Coast Council Area. The BOM warns that a severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Maroochydore and waters off Maroochydore," the Queensland police said in a statement.
Fatal Queensland Floods
Severe storms have dumped heavy rainfall in southeast Australia. A report from ABC Australia said that parts of Brisbane recorded up to 200 millimetres of rain and forecasters predicted more thunderstorms in the coming days. Despite authorities' efforts to alert and rescue people, two people have died in the horrific floods in Queensland.
The police informed local media about another woman who was found dead in her car which was found submerged in floodwaters near Mount Isa. Queensland police said, “At approximately 1:15 p.m., emergency services received reports of a white Toyota Hilux that was located partially submerged in the flooded Malbon River, near Cloncurry Duchess Road. The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old Townsville woman, was located inside and was declared deceased. Investigations into the circumstances of the woman’s death are ongoing."
Queensland police further urged people to stay indoors during the dangerous situation. "Due to recent weather events, flooding is continuing to impact extensive road networks across the Mount Isa district. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, and to never enter flood waters," the police stated in a statement to ABC News.
