What Happened?

Anita Mukhey was waiting at the bus stop on Burnt Oak Broadway in Edgware when Jalal approached her and threatened her. He reportedly demanded her handbag and, when she refused, pulled her to the street and stabbed her. Anita was pictured lying in a pool of blood in footage posted on X regarding the incident. Salon worker Jess Bloom (24), who witnessed the incident, told the Times that Anita was seen yanking her handbag away from Jalal, "He pulled her onto the road and stabbed her three times. Then he let go of her and dropped her to the ground in the middle of the road. She was covered in blood, and his hands were red. He ran off, and everyone ran to the woman to help her."

Another witness said he saw Jalal walk away "cool as a cucumber" until he realised people had started to chase him, at which point he started running. The paramedics, police and ambulance reached the scene in two minutes and tried to revive Mukhey. However, despite their  efforts, Mukhey succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Jalal was arrested the same day on charges of murder and possession of an offensive weapon in the Colindale area. The police have refrained from revealing Jalal's nationality at this stage of the trial.

Anita leaves behind her husband, Hari, daughter and son, Laila and Dev, as well as grandchildren. Her family described her as a lovely woman who cared for her family and worked as a medical secretary for the NHS.
