Chandigarh-born Charu Sood has been elected as a local councillor of Elmbridge Borough council. It is one of the most vibrant and richest boroughs of UK, reported TOI.

Member of the Conservative party, Charu defeated the Labour party candidate with over 54% votes.

Family Background

Charu's parents, Shashi Bhushan Sud and Kiran Sud reside in Chandigarh. Her father is also actively involved in the politics of the area. He is the president of Sood Sabha in Chandigarh.

Charu moved to the UK in 2007 after her marriage and has been living there since then. She is married to Saurabh Sood.

She has been an active member of Residents Society Committee in the UK. Charu has also worked in the UK branches of banks like SBI and PNB.

She has done her schooling from St Kabir School and DAV Senior Secondary School. Charu completed her Class X from the fromer and Class XII from latter. She graduated from Khalsa College, Chandigarh.

Objectives in mind

After joining office as a councillor, Charu said that she wants to work towards finding new opportunities for the youth. She wants to help them with their careers and employment opportunities.

While talking to TOI, Charu said, “I will work with businesses in the Brooklands Business Park to encourage them to promote internships and apprentice opportunities.”

She also wants to work towards infrastructural as well as environmental development. Fixing of Queens Road, Seven Hills Road and St George’s Avenue is her priority area.

"I will work to bring in speed and HGV restrictions on some residential roads. I will protect our valuable green belt and do all I can to ensure Weybridge Hospital reopens as soon as possible,” she said in a report by TOI.
