An Indian-origin police official in Singapore was sentenced to two years in jail after pleading guilty to four counts, including two for seeking sexual favours from women under investigation. The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau arrested 31-year-old Mahendran Selvarajoo, on May 1 last year for seeking sexual favours from women.
Selvarajoo was investigating her for shop-theft and credit card frauds. He reportedly lied to her and said that the company had contacted the police about the investigation. He reportedly told her that he would help her and sought sexual favours in exchange, which she agreed, fearing she could lose her job.

Selvarajoo's duties included carrying out commercial crime investigations that entailed interviewing witnesses, among other things. Despite being told by his senior that one of the cases was no longer with him, he went to a woman's house to get her signatures. The statement had new paragraphs inserted to highlight aspects in her favour.

Recently, a traffic policeman allegedly harassed two women and a transgender activist in Kolkata. Subsequently, the three women approached the police and the traffic police official was arrested. He was identified as Abhishek Bhattacharjee and the complaint was filed by the West Bengal Transgender Development Board reported The Indian Express.
The accused allegedly misbehaved with them when they were returning home after having dinner at a restaurant. When they dialled 100, a few policemen came but they allegedly started addressing the accused as “sir”. The complainant then started recording a video on their mobile phone.

The accused has been charged under IPC sections 341 of wrongful restraint, 323 of voluntarily causing hurt, 354 of assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and 509 of insulting the modesty of any woman, makes any sound or gesture, or exhibits any object), and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act.
