An Indian-origin student who was a student at a sports school in Singapore died after feeling sick following a fitness trial last week. The school stated that it is initiating a detailed investigation into the death of the 14-year-old boy.
Pranav Madhaik felt sick after a 400-metre fitness time trial on October 5, according to Channel News Asia’s (CNA) report. Pravan was a part of the Singapore Badminton Association's (SBA) national intermediate squad, a youth training programme for promising players.

Madhaik was immediately rushed to the National University Hospital, where he breathed his last. The cremation ceremony happened on the morning of October 11.
The boy’s parents were informed when the ambulance was heading towards the hospital. Most of his organs were not functioning by the time the doctors attended to him. The boy underwent a bypass surgery and has another leg surgery scheduled.
However, early on the morning of October 11, he passed away. His uncle, Raj Verma, said that his family is seeking answers from the school.
The Singapore Sports School stated on October 11 that they would undertake a detailed investigation into the incident, review their safety protocols thoroughly, and keep the parents updated.
The school expressed deep sadness over the passing of their student and extended their heartfelt condolences to his family. Speaking about him, the school said that he was a role model student and an athlete who excelled in badminton and also had an exemplary character. He was said to be a cheerful, pleasant, and positive student.
The school counsellors and staff were rendering support to the affected student-athletes and staff during this difficult phase, and the school prioritises the wellbeing of its students.
According to the obituary on the school’s Facebook page, Pranav Madhaik was the son of Prem Singh Madhaik and Rita Madhaik. He also has two brothers, Pratyush Madhaik and Prakrit Madhaik.
