Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and wife Ayesha Mukherjee have reportedly parted ways after almost a decade of being married.
News agency ANI reported that sources close to the couple have confirmed the news. Ayesha Mukherjee took to her Instagram handle on September 6 and wrote, “I THOUGHT DIVORCE WAS A DIRTY WORD UNTIL I BECAME A 2 TIME DIVORCEE.”
In a lengthy post about divorce, Mukherjee wrote that the first time she went through divorce she felt scared.
“So now imagine, I have to go through it a second time. Woooahhhhhh. That is terrifying. Being divorced once before already, felt like I had more at stake the second time round. I had more to prove. So when my second marriage broke down it was really scary. All the feelings I felt when I went through it the first time came flooding in. Fear, failure and disappointment x 100. What does this mean for me? How does this define me and my relationship to marriage?" she wrote.
Mukherjee was earlier married to an Australian businessman. She had two daughters, Aliyah and Rhea with him. She met Shikhar Dhawan via internet as per reports. The couple tied the knot in 2012. The two share a common friend, cricketer Harbhajan Singh who reportedly brought Dhawan and Mukherjee together. The couple welcomed their son Zoravar in 2014.
Talking more about divorce and what it meant to her, Mukherjee argued that divorce is not a bad word. She said that once she went through it before, she had realised that she was actually doing. "The remarkable thing is I actually felt much more empowered. I realised my fear and the meaning I gave to the word divorce was my own doing," she added.
So far, Shikhar Dhawan has not made any statement about the divorce. He is going to be playing the second phase of Indian Premiere League 2021 which is scheduled to take place in UAE from September 19 to October 15.
