India got its first win in the ICC Women's Championship against South Africa at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. To stay in the three match series, India needed this win as the first match was won by South Africa. The star of the show, however was Shikha Pandey, who played her debut match in March this year.
At 25, Pandey made her maiden ODI half a century during the match and helped India win by six wickets. India is now at par with South Africa at 1-1 and the deciding match will take place today at the same stadium.
Choosing to ball first after winning the toss, Indian Captain Mithali Raj explained her decision saying, "We lost the first game batting first, so we decided to bowl first and see how it goes". . Pandey, who had only managed to pick up one wicket in her previous two ODIs, made 59 off 56 balls and left when India only required 25 more runs to win. Her outstanding performance, made India win with 32 balls to spare.
