June 12, 2014. The Asian Women Achievement Awards aim to felicitate and recognize the extraordinary achievements of Asian women in the UK in all fields including business, arts, media, sports etc. Held at London Hilton, the awards were hosted by Real Business, and held in association with The Royal Bank of Scotland. Many Indian women were honored with awards, here’s a look at some of them:
Sharmila Nikapota won the Social and Humanitarian Asian Woman of Achievement award for raising money to fund medical research for treatments, helping thousands of children who suffer from recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa.
Nisha Tondon, the executive director of ArtsEkta won the Asian Woman of Achievement in Arts and Culture award for launching Belfast Mela- Northern Ireland's first multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary arts festival.
Poorna Bell, lifestyle editor of The Huffington Post UK, won the Asian Woman of Achievement in the Media award for campaigning on issues such as forced marriage and domestic violence in the Asian community.
Karina Govindji, director of Saints of Tarporley Services, won the Asian Woman of Achievement in Business award for building a successful business while remaining passionate about giving back to her local community, Real Business reported.
Apart from them, Professor Geeta Nargund, consultant, medical director and CEO of Create Health Foundation and Consultant at St George's Hospital was honored with RBS AWA Chairman’s Award- the most prestigious award of the evening.
