Korea Open Super Tournament kicked off with an effortful win for star shuttler P.V.Sindhu against top-seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. The opening round saw a score of 21-19 21-23 21-13 in the super series between the two tough contenders on Wednesday.
The game proved to be a high-strung one for both the players as they kept looking to get extra points right from the start. Sindhu entered the women’s singles match with a 0-3 score against Intanon who is also world no.5 in the game. The two-time bronze medalist in world championships, Sindhu did not get deterred by her strong opponent’s moves and gave a tough fight to her in the match that went on for one hour and nine minutes.
Sindhu took the lead after much hassle in the beginning with a score of a narrow 4-2. However, Intanon equalised the score later and turned the match in her favour with 9-6 score. The leads kept taking sides very frequently with both the players, but Sindhu proved her mettle and closed the first game with 18-18.
The match went on like this until at the end in the deciding game which began with Intanon taking a lead with 7-3 but ended with a Sindhu still clutching hard and fast to the victory roared back to dominate the proceedings of the game.
This win should prove to be a huge source of encouragement to Sindhu as she proceeds in the game to win more such matches. In the next match, Sindhu is expected to have a match against anyone from the Sayaka Takashi-Yip Pui Yin fight. Though Sindhu being an unseeded opponent among some of the world’s topseeded ones, if she maintains her performances, she can give a tough fight to any of them.
