Indian, South African Women's Cricket Teams Record Historic ODI Scores

For the first time in women's cricket history, the Indian and South African cricket teams secured a total of four centuries in an ODI match on June 19.

For the first time in women's cricket history, the Indian and South African teams secured a total of four centuries in an ODI match on June 19 at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium. India's Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur put out blazing performances, smashing 136 and 103 runs respectively. Mandhana also touched another milestone as she became the first Indian woman to score consecutive ODI centuries, equalling former captain Mithali Raj's sensational feat of most centuries (seven) scored in the 50-over game. India won the match by a close call of four runs.

Meanwhile, Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp from the South African side gave a tough competition, smashing centuries with 135 and 114 runs respectively. South Africa almost chased down the 326-run target but India's Pooja Vastrakar denied them a victory with an exceptional performance in the final over.

First Time In 51 Years!

Four batters managed to score centuries in a single game for the first time in the five-decade-long history of women's cricket. In 2018, during an England v/s South Africa game in Hove, Tammy Beaumont, Sarah Taylor and Lizelle Lee created history by scoring centuries. Men's ODI has seen four centuries during three ODIs.

A total of 15 sixes were smashed in the match; eight of these were by India, the highest number of sixes secured by the team in an ODI. Moreover, a total of 646 runs were scored in the game, which is the second-highest aggregate in a Women's ODI. The highest is 678 runs, scored during the 2017 World Cup between England and South Africa.

South Africa also made history as they secured 321 runs for 6, the highest by any team in a chase in women's ODIs. The previous highest was also by South Africa when they scored 305 for 9 against England in 2017 and 305 for 4 by Sri Lanka while chasing South Africa's 302 earlier this year.
