Team India defeated South Africa by 49 runs to clinch the first Super Sixes match of the Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Colombo on Wednesday.
Captain Mithali Raj once again guided the team to victory. This was a major victory for India as both India and South Africa had topped their respective groups and carried a maximum of four points from the preliminary league to the second stage. Both the teams from each group would play with the other preliminary group.

India, which chose to bat first, got two half centuries from Mithali Raj (64) and Mona Meshram (55) and scored 205 in 50 overs. While the South Africa women struggled, losing all their wickets for 156 in 46.4 overs.
From India, fast bowler Shikha Pandey with 4/34 and left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht with 3/22, hammered the opponent.

While batting, South Africa realized that they can’t keep up and can never achieve the target score. Thus, India snatched the game, taking advantage of the weak point of the competitor.

Indian women will next face off Bangladesh on Friday.
The teams which would rank in the top four from the Super Six will be qualified for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 and for the ICC Women’s Championship too.

With this win, India is now one step closer to the trophy with three more wins to go. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan and Bangladesh won over Ireland in other matches on Wednesday. So as far as the calculation goes, there’s a high chance that five teams will fight for the top places at the end of the league.
