As India is under a lockdown owing to the spread of the coronavirus, the total number of coronavirus cases in India is now touching 2000. According to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the exact figure at the moment is 1965. 151 people have been treated for COVID-19 and discharged in India. As per one report, on Wednesday (April 1st) the country recorded its highest single-day increase in the number of COVID-19 positive patients - 437 were reported, with Tamil Nadu leading the spike.

An NDTV report suggests that the sharp increase in the "number of cases has been linked to the controversial religious gathering held by Islamic group Tablighi Jamaat at the Markaz Nizamuddin in south Delhi."

However no new COVID-19 cases were reported from Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Chandigarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Assam, Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Bengal, Haryana, Jharkhand, Puducherry, Karnataka, Goa, Odisha and Telangana till 9 am on April 2nd.
Maharashtra continues to be the most-affected state with 335 cases and 13 deaths. "We have not stepped out of our homes, we are just staying in come what may," says Radhika, a mom of two little children 7 and 2 years old. "Things are bad in Mumbai and Maharashtra as a whole. We are all vulnerable to this virus. Worse, it's getting so hot in the city already." Kerala is next with 265 cases and two deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu with 234 cases and one death.
