16-Year-Old Ends Life After Two Youths Enter Home With "Intention To Rape": Report

A 16-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide on early Monday morning in Rajasthan after two young men reportedly entered her house with an ‘intention to rape her’. Even though the minor’s family members alleged rape in their FIR, police officials are waiting for a medical report to ascertain the true reason. Presently, both accused men are in police custody.

According to a Times of India report, the incident took place in Dholpur district of Jaipur. Police officials from Baseri police station are investigating the case. The two youths have been identified as Bunty, 23 and Harkesh, 20.

Detailed Account Of The Crime

As per cops, the two accused youths allegedly entered the minor girl’s house secretly on Sunday night. Subsequently, when the family became conscious of their presence, they acted immediately and caught one of the accused. While the family members were busy apprehending the youth, the girl went to her room and reportedly hung herself there.

The girl’s family informed the local police about the incident at 7 am on Monday. Thereafter, police officials reached their house and took down the girl's body. The family members also handed over the accused to the police.

Dholpur SP Keshar Singh Shekhawat told TOI, “It appears that the girl was embarrassed or ashamed because of which she took her own life." However, the police could not confirm the same as the girl has not left behind a suicide note.

Similar Past Incidents

In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in the instances of attempted molestation and rape of women in India. Many survivors also decide to die by suicide because of misplaced shame and embarrassment. Earlier this month, a 15-year-old girl died by suicide in the Bulandshahr area of Uttar Pradesh. Allegedly, she took the step after three men, who belonged to the same village as the girl, harassed, filmed and threatened her.

In October 2017, a 30-year-old rape survivor tried to immolate herself outside police headquarters in Panchkula. Reportedly, the woman had gone there to meet Haryana DGP B S Sandhu. However, she tried to set herself on fire when she could not meet him. The staff on duty successfully stopped her.

In the same year, another 15-year-old rape survivor in Uttar Pradesh died by suicide. Reportedly, she took the step after the men who allegedly gang-raped her threatened to rape her again.
