An argument in a Noida gated community turned physical when a woman, who was allegedly questioned for walking their dog without a leash, slapped an elderly man. The incident happened on October 24 in Hyde Park society in Sector 78. A video that is being widely circulated on social media shows an argument between two women, who are reportedly sisters, and an elderly couple. Mid-argument, one of the sisters slaps the man despite onlookers stopping her.
Video: Argument Over Dog Turns Physical
In the video, one of the women can be heard threatening the elderly man saying, "How can you touch me? I'll slap you!" The person behind the camera can be heard urging passersby to intervene after the altercation turned physical. He can be heard telling one of the women, "How can you slap uncle?"
According to reports, the elderly man filed a case of assault and criminal intimidation at Noida's Sector 113 police station. An officer told the Hindustan Times that the situation started after the sisters unleashed their dog near a children's playground. The dog allegedly approached a three-year-old child.
Police said that the mother of the child raised her voice at the two women, asking them to control their pet. According to the police complaint, this led to an argument, and one of the women allegedly slapped the child's mother, who then asked her in-laws to intervene.
"When the woman's in-laws arrived at the scene after hearing the commotion, they attempted to calm the situation," a police officer told the Hindustan Times, adding that an elderly man was slapped twice during the argument. According to reports, the case was settled the next morning after the woman apologised to the family.
Similar Incident: Man Slaps Woman Over Pet Dog In Apartment Lift
In a similar incident last year, a retired IAS officer and two women, along with their pet dog, were involved in a dispute that eventually turned violent in Noida's Sector 183. The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera. A disagreement stemming from taking a dog into an elevator resulted in a heated altercation among residents at a Noida apartment complex on November 30.
The incident unfolded at Park Laureate Society in Sector 108 when a retired civil servant objected to a woman bringing her dog into the elevator. Both the retired officer and the dog owner started recording the confrontation on their phones. Tensions escalated when the woman took the man's phone, sparking a physical confrontation that was captured by CCTV cameras.
During the clash, it appears the man slapped the woman, leading her to involve her husband in the situation. This, in turn, triggered another round of physical altercations, with the woman preventing other residents from entering the elevator to protect her husband. The apartment's security personnel had to step in to separate the two men.
After a video of the altercation went viral on social media, the police were alerted and examined the CCTV footage. Both parties involved have submitted written statements to the police, requesting no further action be taken against them. However, the police have stated that their investigation into the matter will continue.
The issue of whether dogs can be taken into elevators has been a source of contention between pet owners and apartment residents throughout the country. Numerous conflicts over such matters have been reported in recent times.
Many apartments in Noida have implemented restrictions on bringing dogs into elevators, but pet owners argue that these directives lack legal enforceability. The apartment associations cite multiple incidents of dog-related incidents in elevators as the basis for these rules.
In a previous case, the Greater Noida administration imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on a pet owner after their dog bit a six-year-old child in an apartment elevator.
