Hyderabad Techie Husband: A 27-year-old woman named Bhuvaneshwari's charred body was found in a suitcase in Tirupathi of Andhra Pradesh. Later, CCTV footage of her husband surfaced in which he was seen wheeling out the suitcase from his house. The police arrested the husband on July 1, 2021.
The deceased woman used to work at Cognizant in Hyderabad and had shifted to Tirupati with her family (husband and a kid) during the lockdown. Her husband, Maramreddy Sreekanth Reddy, who was currently unemployed was nabbed by the police on Thursday after his mobile phone was tracked down near Vijayawada, police said.
Bhuvneshwari's charred body was found on June 23 near Ruia Hospital. The police had arrested a taxi driver on suspicion. The driver revealed to the police that Sreekanth Reddy had travelled in his taxi from his house and then back. He also claimed that Reddy was carrying a heavy suitcase and his child.
The driver alleged that the child was in the taxi when Reddy set Bhuvneshwari's body on fire.
When Bhuvneshwari's absence was starting to get noticed among her family members, Reddy told the relatives that his wife died of COVID-19. The relatives reportedly tried to find Bhuvneshwari's name in various hospitals but did not find any leads. Mamatha, a relative of Bhuvneshwari who is also a trainee sub-inspector, discovered the CCTV footage of Reddy taking the suitcase out.
As per the police statement, the video and taxi driver's testimony helped police confirm Reddy as the accused in his wife's murder. Reddy reportedly denied killing his wife to the police and claimed that she died by falling on the floor of their apartment.
The police have found evidence that Reddy allegedly burnt his wife's body three times to ensure that it fully burnt. He is charged with dowry death. As per the law, the onus of finding evidence in his favour is on him.
The couple had been married for the past two and a half years and were getting involved in frequent quarrels for the last few months, the police said.
