Hisar Girl Receives NCC Gold

Ankit Jaglan, a science student of DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh has been chosen as the best air wing NCC cadet of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated her with a gold medal in New Delhi on January 28.

Daughter of a retired Haryana police constable, Randhir Jaglan, this Hisar girl has two elder sisters. She aspires to join the armed forces but she was clueless about it so she joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Chandigarh. “I joined NCC over a year ago,” she said.

Breaking shackles

“In Haryana, girls do not know about the options that they can opt for career wise and are even discouraged sometimes. However, my parents have always been supportive.In fact my mother, Sunita Jaglan, asked me to join the NCC,” said Jaglan.

“I had read in newspapers about girls studying in Chandigarh and clearing prestigious exams, including tests for armed forces. So, I convinced my parents to send me here for further studies,” she added.

Prepping up

She used to participate in pre Republic Day camps. Where she would often give different tests including a written test. For the award, she appeared for tests related to IQ, firing, drills, squad command and even cultural competitions.

The Principal of her college, BC Josan congratulated Ankit and hailed her efforts in achieving her goal.

Future plans

Ankit aspires to become a fighter pilot and would love to join the Indian Air Force.

Young girls like Ankit are making their family and country proud through dogged determination. They are an inspiration for other girls aiming to reach the acme.
