CBSE Board has reportedly proposed two options to the government for Class 12 examinations which had to be postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19. According to the Indian Express, the board is likely to hold examinations for major subjects.

The CBSE Board considers 20 subjects as major out of the 174 subjects offered to students. A student is required to choose at least five subjects and six at most out of which four are considered as major subjects.

The first view proposed by the Board advises following the existing format and designated centres to conduct examinations for the major subjects. Marks for the minor subjects can be calculated based on the performance of major subjects.

For this, the board will require a timeframe of three months. One month will be required for pre-exam activities, around two months will be required for the conduction of exams and declaration of results and 45 days will be required to hold compartment exams, The Indian Express reported.

As for the second option, the Board suggested conducting exams for the major subjects in self-centres. It also suggested reducing the examination time to 90 minutes wherein only objective and short answer questions will be given.

According to the second view, a student will appear only for one language and three major subjects. Marks for the fifth and sixth subjects will be calculated according to the performance of the major subjects.

The examination will reportedly be held in two phases. If a student is unable to appear for the exam due to the COVID-19 situation, he/she will be given the chance to appear again at a different time.

The government will be holding a meeting with the education ministers and experts of all states and UTs to decide over the two options suggested by CBSE Board on Sunday, May 23. The meeting will be attended by Education Minister Ramesh Pohkriyal and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and will be chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The meeting is likely to take a decision over Class 12 examinations as well as entrance exams of NEET, JEE, CLAT, etc.

Earlier today, Manish Sisodia also took it to Twitter to ask people for suggestions and ideas for the same.
