Yesterday, Donald Trump won the US Presidential election, beating Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and leaving her supporters devastated. A day after the event, Clinton took the stage at a New York Hotel to give her painful concessioniory speech. Here are some key highlights:
“This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for, and I'm sorry we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country,” she said.
She said that she still feels pride and gratitude for the campaign her supporters built, and that she understands their disappointment because she feels it too.
“Our campaign was never about one person, or even one election. It was about the country we love and building an America that is hopeful, inclusive, and big-hearted.”
She urged her supporters to give Trump a chance to lead, saying that our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power.
She went on to thank Barack and Michelle Obama, her family, Tim Kaine and the millions of volunteers and community leaders who campaigned for her.
She urged women not to lose hope and assured them that they will break the hardest glass ceiling one day.
"To all the women...who put their faith in this campaign and in me...nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion." —Hillary

"Now, I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will — and hopefully sooner than we might think right now" she said.
"To all the little girls watching...never doubt that you are valuable and powerful & deserving of every chance & opportunity in the world."

She ended by saying that there is more work to do and asked her supporters to have faith in each other.
“This loss hurts, but please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it,” she said.
