Heena Sidhu's 2021 plan: Prepare For Asian Games, Commenwealth Games

Shooter Heena Sidhu is waiting for 2021— the much awaited new year. She has decided to take go slow on her training. As she was disqualified from the Tokyo Olympics, the sportswoman has no load to carry forward to 2021. This will be an added advantage for her. Heena Sidhu's 2021 plans are quite ambitious. She plans to devote herself towards prepping up for bigger sporting events like the next Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth games and also World Championships.

Heena Sidhu has been free ever before the lockdown commenced. She has been occupied in training herself at a shooting range located in Pune.

However, she has raised concerns over her long break. She is a bit apprehensive about her shooting skills. She told News18 that a long break like this often dulls the 'muscle memory. ' However, she added that she is quite happy with refreshing her skills. Heena acknowledged the fact that the effects of the lockdown will be long-lasting for other shooters as well.

The long break has been difficult for all sportspersons

Heena Sidhu said that the Covid-19 pandemic clashed with the Tokyo Olympics. This is the time when sportspersons are fit physically as well as mentally. Then there is a break for them to prepare for the next Olympics, and the qualification process starts in a year. She added that after the 2021 Olympics get over, shooters will hardly get any break for preparing for the next cycle. They won't be having the 5-6 months break they usually get. Besides that, trials for the other tournaments like the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games will commence too.

Sidhu then hinted that the pandemic came at a time when everyone was motivated enough to participate in the Olympics. She also said that it will cumbersome to begin the entire preparation process from scratch. "It's tough," she said. Heena speculated that 2021 Olympics will be nothing like the ones in previous years. Moreover, the protocols on whether atheletes will have to be vaccinated remains unknown.
