Rajni Bali, Haryana's first woman locomotive driver is no more. She died in Ambala civil hospital on Tuesday during the morning after delivering a girl child on New Year's day.
The 32-year old assistant loco pilot was rushed to the hospital on Friday night after the commencement of her labour pains. According to her husband, she slipped into a coma after giving birth to a girl child on Monday night. The newborn she gave birth to has survived.
According to her husband Shakti Singh, it is medical negligence that led to her death. He is blaming the delay in treatment and response by the doctors as the cause of her death.

"She went into a coma a few minutes after the delivery. But doctors delayed treatment. She died due to their negligence,'' Singh told newspersons.
Ambala civil surgeon, Dr Vinod Gupta, however, refuted this and said that Rajni had developed some serious post-delivery complications. A gynaecologist and a surgeon were attending to her. A probe has been ordered into her death.
The victim's family approached Haryana health minister Anil Vij's office. After this, he ordered the health department officials to probe the circumstances which led to Rajni's death.

Her background
Rajni's father Kamal Kumar was also a driver with the Indian Railways. He had two children and Rajni was the elder one. She was inducted into service in 2012 on the day of her father's retirement. She got her first independent ride in 2015 when she drove the train from Chandigarh to Ambala.
Rajni is survived by two daughters and her husband who live in Chanderpuri.
Rajni was truly a symbol of woman empowerment. Her demise is definitely a setback for the country.
