Haryana Commission for Women has sought a "strict explanation" from Congress leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda on the issue of the video in which women MLAs were seen pulling a tractor with ropes while Hooda sat on it.
The video has created a lot of controversies since it was released on March 8. Earlier, Union Minister Smriti Irani also condemned the act as said, " Congress women are reduced to tasks that even men refuse to do."
She had said," It is an absolutely shocking sight. A Congress leader sits calmly on a tractor which he is making female Congress workers pull physically. I understand he wants to make a political statement, protest but should that be done at the cost of women?"
The National Commission Women chief Rekha Sharma released her statement in which she said that women MLAs pulling a tractor with a male politician sitting on it "lowers the dignity of women". She said if any women MLAs were made to do so against their wish should reach out to NCW. Sharma said," f the women think they were made to do this forcibly, they can come to us but even if they’re doing it willingly, the one on the tractor should think that this shouldn’t be done. If we get a complaint, we’ll take action. Even if we don’t get a complaint, it’s condemnable."
On March 10, several female members of BJP protested against the video in front of Congress' Delhi headquarters. Hooda had said that women MLAs chose to pull the tractor with ropes because they are most pinched by the rising prices of cooking gas and fuel.
Haryana State Commission for Women seeks 'strict explanation' from Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on reports that women MLAs pulled his tractor outside the state secretariat on March 8.
