Singer Halsey apologised to her fans after posting a picture of herself on social media that many found insensitive. The 26-year-old shared a picture of her past struggle with an eating disorder on Sunday, causing a social media outrage. The Instagram story in question was a topless mirror selfie in which she looks extremely thin, describing it as her "lowest point". She went on to delete the image following a backlash that it wasn't accompanied by "sufficient trigger warning".

“TW: ED
After removing the image, Halsey later admitted on Twitter that she was wrong in posting the photo without providing a "sufficient" warning. “I am very sorry for posting a photo of myself depicting my struggle with ED without a sufficient trigger warning. I was very nervous to post it and didn’t think properly. I had positive intentions. I would never want to harm someone who shares my struggle.”

She further tweeted she was taking a break from social media "because this has turned into something I am not emotionally equipped to handle for the time being." Hasley added, "I hope that's okay."

Last year, Halsey openly talked about her bipolar diagnosis and revealed she had been “committed” twice since gaining fame. “It’s been my choice,” she told Rolling Stone in an interview about mental health. “I’ve said to (my manager), ‘Hey, I’m not going to do anything bad right now, but I’m getting to the point where I’m scared that I might, so I need to go figure this out.’ It’s still happening in my body. I just know when to get in front of it,” the artist noted. Halsey also spoke up about spending 17 days in a psychiatric ward after a suicide attempt while gracing the cover of Marie Claire magazine, back in 2018.
