The Run-Up To The Crime
Reportedly, on Friday, the 35-year-old sarpanch visited a doctor in Pataudi with her sick son. Her nephew also accompanied her. After the doctor had examined the woman’s son, she and the two minor boys went to a friend’s house in Gurugram’s Ward 12. While there, the two men allegedly approached the woman and behaved inappropriately with her. They went on to assault her when she tried to resist and raise an alarm.
The police also found wooden sticks in the accused men's four-wheeler. Reportedly, the two men chased the woman and attempted to hit her during the incident.

Police Investigations On
As per Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime), the locals rushed to the woman’s rescue after they heard the commotion. The police identified one of the accused molesters as Mitu alias Amit.
According to preliminary police investigations, the two molested the woman because of personal rivalry. Consequently, police booked the accused under section 323 (assault), 34 (common intention), 354 B (molestation), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused are still on the run from the police.

Past Incidents In Gurugram
Gurugram has witnessed various instances of violence against women in recent years. In 2018, an autorickshaw driver and his friends allegedly gangraped a 19-year old girl in the city. Earlier this year, in January, three men allegedly kidnapped a 32-year-old Delhi woman from a metro station in Gurugram and allegedly raped her in a hotel room in the city.
In June 2020, the police arrested a gardener for allegedly raping a woman at a farmhouse in the Badshapur area of Gurugram. Reportedly, the woman worked at the same farmhouse as the accused.
