In a bizarre case from Gurugram, a woman reportedly kept herself and her son locked inside their apartment for three long years in the fear of contracting Covid-19. The woman has been living in confinement since India imposed lockdown and has kept herself and her son away from the outside world.

Covid-19 locked up the entire world but unlocked new fears in the mind of people. The handshakes, hugs, conversations and even breathing were no longer normal and it is true that they will no longer be the same. Every cough, every increased Celsius was an alarm. As quickly as the world went to confinement, it came out of it carefully and cautiously. Though Covid-19 is not over yet, we have controlled it significantly and are back to the new normal. However, a woman in Gurugram had reportedly been living locked up inside her house since the first lockdown and did not overcome her fear until the police intervened. Here's all you need to know.

Gurugram Woman Locks Herself For 3 Years : 10 Things To Know
- The 33-year-old woman named Munmun Majhi lived in a rented apartment in Chakkarpur, Gurugram with her husband, Sujan Majhi and her son who is now 10-year-old.
- In 2020, when the government imposed a country-wide lockdown, the family went into confinement and started taking precautions. However, the woman and her son did not leave the house for three years after that, even after the lockdown was removed.
- In 2020, when lockdown restrictions eased and company's began to operate, her husband Sujan Majhi who is an engineer started going to office. However, the wife did not let him in the apartment once he stepped out, fearing possible contact with the virus.
- The husband was forced to live at his friend's place for a few days and then a hotel. He then rented an accommodation in the same locality and has been living there for the past few years. Meanwhile, he has been paying the rent and bills of the apartment and his son's school fees.
- Her did not see the sun for the past three years. The only contact they had with Sujan Majhi was through video calls. The woman or the child never came out of the house. The husband bought vegetables and groceries and left them at the main door which they used.
- During these three years, the woman did not even use storage water or cooking gas, fearing that the virus maybe contracted through them. Her relatives and in-laws tried to persuade her in the beginning but she did not change her decision and soon they stopped convincing her.
- The matter came into notice when Sujan Majhi got tired of this and decided to approach the police on February 17 to seek help. He filed a complaint in Chakkarpur police station but the police did not believe him at first. He then made a video call to his wife and son which convinced the police about the situation.
- In the video call, the police noticed that the condition of the apartment was very dirty and dirt and garbage has accumulated in the house, alarming the police of possible health hazards.
- The police, along with health department and child welfare officials, rescued the woman and her son from the apartment and sent them to civil hospital.
- The woman is reportedly thought of having psychological issues and both, the mother and son, have been referred to PGI Rohtak where they will be treated accordingly.
