Gurugram: 20-Year-Old Aspiring Model-Singer Raped Under The Pretext Of Being Cast In Music Video

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a private company’s executive in Gurugram recently. Reportedly, the executive enticed the girl - an aspiring model and singer -  with the false promise of helping her secure the lead role in a YouTube music video. Police officials have registered a case and investigations are on.

What Is The Case About?

According to a Times of India report, the aspiring actor-model is a resident of Ashok Vihar. A police officer also confirmed that the woman was looking for opportunities to make her mark in the entertainment industry. He said, “She had also posted some of her videos on YouTube and was looking for an opportunity to feature in some music video.”

The woman met the accused man when she visited an acquaintance in Sector 31 Gurugram, for a work meeting. The accused pretended to be the producer of an upcoming YouTube music video and lured the woman with the offer of a lead role in the same. Thereafter, he took the woman to a nearby hotel under the pretext of recording an audition video and allegedly raped her there. The accused executive allegedly threatened the survivor against sharing the incident with anyone.

Police Investigations Are On

However, the woman eventually told her parents about the incident after a few days and filed a complaint at Gurugram’s Sector 40 police station. On Wednesday, the police registered a case under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Subash Boken, a police spokesperson, told TOI, “On the basis of the woman’s complaint a case has been registered and a police team has been formed to investigate the case. The accused will be arrested soon.”

The 20-year-old woman’s mother also called for strict action against the accused man for exploiting her daughter. She said, “My daughter was under depression for past few days, after repeated inquiry she finally shared her ordeal … She wanted to make her name in the field of dance and music and took it as an opportunity but she was exploited. I want strict actions against the man.”

Past Incidents In Gurugram

Gurugram has witnessed many instances of crime against women in the recent past. Earlier this month, the police arrested four men for allegedly gangraping and beating up a 25-year-old woman in Gurugram’s DLF Phase 2. Also, in September 2020, two men allegedly molested the female sarpanch of Pataudi village, Gurugram. Reportedly, she was visiting a doctor for her son’s check-up when the incident took place.
