Two women bouncers were viciously assaulted by a group of five men at a club in Gurgaon's Sector-30 during the early hours of Saturday, shedding light on the vulnerability of women in public spaces and sparking widespread concern about the need for increased safety measures. According to the police report, the trouble began when the accused men allegedly indulged in unruly behaviour towards another guest at the Ebowla club.
Sensing trouble, Megha, a 21-year-old bouncer, along with her colleague Aarti, intervened to restore order. However, their noble act of intervention quickly turned into a nightmare as the men unleashed a torrent of abuse and violence against them.
The Incident Details
Megha, a 21-year-old woman, and her associate Aarti were at the Ebowla club when they witnessed the men allegedly misbehaving with another guest. Taking a stand against this misconduct, Megha intervened. However, what followed was a horrifying ordeal between 2:30 am and 3:00 am, where the men not only verbally abused the women but also physically assaulted them. The situation escalated to the point where the assailants attempted to run Megha over with their car, causing injury to her hand.
Megha, who hails from Rohtak and resides in Gurgaon Sector-52, revealed that the men had used foul language, teased guests, and displayed inappropriate behaviour. Upon being asked to leave the club, they responded with verbal abuse, physical assault, and even death threats before making a hasty exit. Megha bravely identified four of the five accused as Manjeet Deshwal, Mohit Puniya, Amit Ahlawat, and Garita Sahrawat.
Legal Recourse and Accountability
The police, swiftly taking action, have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Despite the identification of the accused and the seriousness of the charges, no arrests have been made as of now. The police assured that the accused, who are customers at the club and hail from Rohtak, will be arrested soon.
After this disturbing incident, concerns are growing about the safety of individuals, especially women, in public spaces like clubs. Calls for more stringent security measures within such establishments are resonating. There is a pressing need for comprehensive protocols addressing guest behaviour and the presence of well-trained security personnel, including female bouncers, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
