On Finding Out About Groom's Baldness, UP Bride Cancels Wedding

Groom Baldness: If you have watched Ayushmann Khurrana’s 2019 movie Bala, you will understand how big the issue of baldness can be for a couple planning to get hitched. One such incident took place in Unnao when a bride refused to marry the groom after she came to know about his baldness.

Half of the wedding rituals were complete and the remaining was supposed to take place in the morning. However, the groom fainted before going into the mandap and his wig accidentally came off. That's when the bride realized that he had hidden this truth from her and her family. She called off the wedding after learning the truth. Her family tried to convince her but she didn't change her mind. The situation got out of hand and that's when the local police had to intervene. In the end, the groom's family decided to pay back  Rs 5.66 lakh that had been spent by them on wedding arrangements.

The groom and his family returned to Kanpur without the bride. The bride's uncle said in an interview, “If they would have told us about the groom’s baldness, we could have mentally prepared the bride and she would not have been shocked. You cannot expect marriage to start on falsehood"

Similar incidents 

A similar incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah when a bride cancelled her wedding with the groom because he showed up at the wedding wearing a wig. On the wedding day, the bride found out that the groom was wearing a wig to hide his baldness. It was during the garland exchange ceremony that she noticed that the groom was extra cautious and was adjusting his traditional headgear again and again. A few days ago, a bride refused to marry the groom after getting annoyed by his continuous drunken dancing with friends at the baraat. The incident took place at Chelana village in the Rajgarh district of Rajasthan. The bride married another person.
