Greta Thunberg supports Disha Ravi: Greta Thunberg took to Twitter and extended her support to activist Disha Ravi who was sent to 3-day judicial custody earlier today.
Thunberg said that freedom of speech and peaceful protest are non-negotiable human rights. She added that these must be a "fundamental part of any democracy. #StandWithDishaRavi". She wrote in a retweet of Fridays For Future India tweet. Thunberg sparked outrage on social media when she tweeted a toolkit supporting the farmers' protests in India.
She later deleted it but the post came under the Indian authorities' scanner they claimed the link between it and the riots in Delhi on republic day. The police said that everything including the red fort flag incident was in accordance with the events mentioned in the toolkit. Activist Disha Ravi was arrested for the same.
According to the police, Ravi is the "key conspirator" in the formulation and circulation of the document, they also accuse her of being involved with the pro-Khalistani Poetic Justice Foundation to tarnish the image of India. Ravi was sent to a three-day judicial custody today in connection with the toolkit case.
The police have also said that Ravi is being evasive during interrogation and allegedly trying to shift the blame on Nikita Jacod and Shantanu. Her bail plea will be heard on Sunday.
