Rajasthan Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra sparked controversy by saying schools with more female staff sees more squabbles. Ironically he was speaking at an event to celebrate International Girl Child Day in Jaipur.
Minister Dotasra while speaking at the 'Sashakt Girl Child - Empowering Rajasthan' event in the state capital Jaipur said, “As the chief of my department, I must say whichever school has more women staffers, squabbles are bound to happen for various reasons.” Adding, "If you correct these small things , you will always find yourselves ahead of men.”
He also added that the government the state has tried to ensure comfort and security of its women citizens and gave them preferred postings in jobs. The minister is also the president of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. He represents Laxmangarh constituency of the Sikar district of the state since 2008 and has been a part of the Congress party since 1981.
On October 10 at an event held at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said he felt sorry that modern women in India wanted to stay single and didn’t want to give birth even if they opted to get married.
Recently, the Rajasthan Compulsory Marriage Registration (Amendment) Bill 2021 was in news. The bill allows registration marriage even if the bride and groom had not attained the legal age for it. The marriage can be registered by their parents or guardians within the 30 days of the ceremony. The amendment to the Rajasthan Compulsory Marriage Act 2009 had led to protest from oppositions and activists who said that the bill encouraged Child Marriage in the state. For women, the legal age for marriage in India is 18 years while for men it is 21 years. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the government will urge Governor Kalraj Mishra to return the marriage bill and it will be re-examined by experts.
