In A First, Golden Globe Nominates Three Female Directors

Golden Globe Nominations: The Golden Globes released the list of nominated persons for the year 2021 on Wednesday.

In the best director's category, Regina King, Chloe Zhao and Emerald Fennell were nominated for their work in the year 2020. 

 The Golden Globes has had a reputed for snubbing the female directors. In 2019, even after women filmmakers made the most films compared to any year, not a single one of them were nominated for best director award. The host Ricky Gervais had said addressed the issue and said, " No female directors were nominated this year. No one. I mean, that's bad." He also said that he has talked to the Hollyw Foreign Press, the organisers of the award show, and that they guaranteed that will never happen again. 

This year clearly the Golden Globe nominations show better female representation. Regina King was nominated for her film One Night In Miami, Chloe Zhao was nominated for much celebrated Nomadland and Emerald Fennell got nominated for Promising Young Woman which stars Carey Mulligan who has won a Palm Spring honour for her role in the film. 

 Apart from the women, David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin were nominated for Mank and Trial Of Chicago 7 respectively.
