Girls trafficked: 11 girls trafficked from a Bru refugee camp located in Northern Tripura were rescued by the Tripura police.

The group of girls included 9 minor girls who were supposed to work as maids in rich households.

The girls were allegedly trafficked to work in "rich households"

Many individuals from the Bru refugee camps have been trafficked ever since anti-Bru protests took place in the Kanchanpur district of Tripura. All the girls were residing in the Bru refugee camp in Kanchanpur where almost 5,400 families are living at the moment. They have been staying there ever since they migrated from Mizoram into Tripura in 1997.

Sangeeta Barui, from East Agartala Childline, said, "We have conducted a medical examination of the girls and will forward to shelter. We have also received a tip-off on other minors working in houses in Agartala from which, we will rescue those children soon."

The girls were rescued by the police while they were at the Chandrapur Inter State Bust terminal of Agartala. They were being led by a man who was arrested by the police. Sangeeta Barui said that her team had received a complaint about a man who was accompanied by the 11 girls. Before the childline workers could reach there, the locals handed over the man to the police who was then brought to the Child Welfare office of East Agartala.
