Gehana Vasisth Pornography Case: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday denied pre-arrest bail plea to Gehana Vasisth in the pornographic films which also involves businessman and actor Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra.
During the hearing, it was pointed that apart from being accused of helping distribute pornographic films in India, Vasisth also allegedly lured women with money to act in those films. Complaints have been filed against her in which she is accused of threatening and coercing women to do pornographic films.
Justice SK Shinde of Bombay High Court refused to grant her anticipatory bail on September 7. The plea had been filed by the actor in August this year.
Vasisth is booked under several sections of the Indian penal code such as section 354-c (outraging modesty of woman), 293 and 292( sale of obscene material). Section 67, 67A and 66E ( transmission of sexually explicit material) in addition to sections of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act has also been applied on her.
The Mumbai police has registered three FIRs in the pornography films case against multiple persons. Raj Kundra who is one the accused persons was arrested on July 19 this year. The court had given him an interim relief by providing him pre-arrest bail.
The police have stated that Gehana Vasisth allegedly lured female actors promising them small roles in web-series. She then forced them do obscene scenes. The said films were uploaded on mobile application Hotshots owned by Raj Kundra, as per the police statements.
Vasisth is also accused under the section 370 of the Indian Penal Code which has punishment against people who detained persons against their will.
The actor and her legal counsel have maintained that her arrest is not needed as the police already has evidence and her statements in the case. She was arrested in a similar case earlier in February this year. Read more.
