Gehana Vasisth porn racket: Television actor Gehana Vasisth, whose real name is Vandana Tiwari, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly shooting and uploading pornographic content on her website. The 32-year-old Indian actor-model is best known for her work in ALTBalaji’s web-series Gandii Baat and Star Plus’ soap Behenein. She first came into the limelight in 2012 after winning the Miss Asia Bikini contest.
Vasisth's manager has requested Mumbai Police to treat the actor on humanitarian grounds, owing to her ill health.
Here's what we know about Gehana Vasisth's alleged porn racket:
1. On February 5, the Mumbai police received a tip-off that some bungalows in Madh Island were being illegally used for flesh trade and shooting porn and adult videos under the guise of a film shoot. Additionally, the police received complaints from victims who were forced in such videos.
2. Based on the information, the police raided bungalows on Madh island in Malad and came across a gang that pushed young struggling actors into performing pornographic films.
3. According to the police, the gang involved in the porn racket took young girls to the property where they lured them with money to act in porn videos.
4. So far, the Crime Branch has arrested six people in the case, including Vasisth.
5. The police also rescued two girls, who have been sent to rehabilitation now.
6. A police officer told TOI that Gehana Vasisth had shot close to 87 obscene videos that were then put on her website which required a subscription of Rs 2000 to watch.
7. Vasisth's bank accounts have Rs36 lakh, generated from website subscribers.
8. However, the actor's publicist Flynn Remedios claimed in a statement that there is no pornography in her work. "The State should not interfere in the creative and artistic expression of an actor or director. She is not at all involved in the alleged porn racket run by others."
9. The statement also added that the actor has been suffering from poor health, and has had four cardiac arrests in the last year.
10. According to her publicist, Gehana Vasisth is being falsely implicated and trapped or made a victim by vested interests and business competitors who are out to defame her.
