Gangrape Survivor Suffers 4th Acid Attack

A 35-year-old gang rape survivor from Uttar Pradesh has been attacked with acid, for the fourth time, despite a constant police protection.

She was staying at a women's hostel in Lucknow when a man poured acid on her by scaling the wall. The Guardian recorded a statement by Vivek Tripathi, a local police officer as, “She was filling water at the hand pump when the attack took place. The attacker fled from the spot.” She has suffered severe burns on her face and neck and is currently being treated at the trauma centre in King George's Medical University, Lucknow.

Due to a property dispute, she was allegedly gang raped and attacked with acid in 2008 and again by the same men in 2012 and 2013. The attackers demanded  her to withdraw the criminal case filed against them. Most recently, she was allegedly forced to drink acid while travelling on a train with one of her daughters.

The woman, who is not named due to legal reasons, works at a restaurant to rehabilitate acid attack survivors; she hails from Rae Bareli district. A FIR has not been lodged yet as the police are waiting for the medical report to confirm the acid attack wounds.

She had approached the police on Saturday, accusing  Dileep and Pradeep Singh, two brothers from her village, of throwing acid on her for the fourth time, reported The Time of India.

Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met the survivor in March following the crime where the same men forced her to drink acid. The Chief Minister ordered for the accused to be apprehended and award the survivor with 1 lakh rupees.

UP Minister, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who is in charge of women's welfare, said, "We have given (the woman) a lot of protection, there is a guard, a vehicle, we have facilitated her employment. The guard's room was 20 to 25 steps away from the spot where the incident took place."
