Gal Gadot recently honoured Bilkis Bano, fondly known as the Shaheen Bagh Dadi, as one of her "Personal Wonder Women" on social media. In an Instagram post, the Wonder Woman star compiled photos of friends and other inspiring women she looks up to, "Saying farewell to 2020." Out of the many slides, one comprises a single photo of 82-year-old activist Bilkis Bano, who has been credited with global recognition for leading the sit-in Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest at New Delhi's Shaheen Bagh area between 2019 and 2020.

Gadot, who recently reprised her superhero role in the Patty Jenkins-directed Wonder Woman 1984, wrote in her Instagram post, "Some are those closest to me - my family, my friends - some are inspiring women I’ve loved discovering, and some are exceptional women I hope to meet in the future. Together, we can do wonders!"

According to Indian Express, Gadot reportedly also shared the image of Bano on her Instagram story, wrongly captioning it: “The 82-year-old activist fighting for women’s equality in India showed me it’s never too late to fight for what you believe in.” Her story now stands deleted.

About Shaheen Bagh's Bilkis Bano

The elderly Shaheen Bagh activist featured on several prestigious lists of honour this year. In September, she was named on TIME's list of 100 most influential people in the world, alongside other global public figures. Later in November, BBC counted her among its ‘100 Women of 2020‘ list.

Bilkis, though grateful, had responded to her recognition saying, “I would have been much happier had our demand been fulfilled… had the government listened to us and given us what we wanted.” Along with her fellow protestors at Shaheen Bagh, the octogenarian had been actively demanding for a revocation of the controversial CAA and NRC proposals.

Wonder Woman To Return For Another Film

Recently, Warner Bros. announced in a statement that Jenkins and Gadot were ready for a third film based on the DC comic superhero. The announcement came after Wonder Woman 1984 scored big numbers despite opening in theatres amidst the pandemic.

Released in India on December 24, Wonder Woman 1984 has, so far, collected over USD 85 million globally. Read more here.
