France: Six Children And Two Adults Stabbed In Knife Attack

In a knife attack in France, six children were stabbed while playing in the park. 

An individual man armed with a knife stabbed eight people in a park including six children and two adults. No casualties have been reported yet but at least four of the toddlers were hospitalised as a result of the brutal attack.

In a small lakeside town in French Alps, Annecy, a frightening incident has come up in the lines where six children playing in a park in broad daylight were stabbed by a man. Two more adults were stabbed in the attack as well. 

All of the children stabbed in the attack are under 3 years of age.

An eyewitness told CNN affiliate BFMTV that the accused entered the playground, began shouting, went towards the strollers and attacked the toddlers.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin informed that the accused has been detained and the attack was done in a square of the small town of Annecy. The accused is reported to be a Syrian asylum seeker. He reportedly described himself as a "Christain from Syria" in his application for asylum.

National police have informed that while two children suffer serious injuries, others have few light injuries. While both the adults who also have been stabbed are seriously injured as well. Police also cautioned about the evolving injury counts.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed in his Tweet how the attack is of "absolute cowardice" and shock for the whole nation.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne along with Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin will travel to Annecy where the attack took place.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin in his tweet also informed that the accused man has been detained and the attack was done in a square of the small town Annecy. 

The MPs in French National Assembly observed two minutes of silence for the survivors of the attack.
