The Rajasthan government recently effected major changes in the State's bureaucracy, shuffling the designations of about 108 officers and appointing additional charges to about 20. This is the first big administrative reshuffle in the State since the new chief minister, Bhajan Lal Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party overthrew the previous Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in 2023. Amid these shifts, four women Indian Administrative Services officers have been appointed pivotal designations.
Who Are The Four Powerful IAS Officers?
According to a report in the NDTV, four women have been designated to key positions in the new administration. These are Anandhi, who will head the Jaipur Development Authority; Arti Dogra, Chairperson of the State's electricity discoms; Gayatri Rathore, who will take charge as Health Secretary; and Shuchi Tyagi, who will be the Transport Commissioner.
Anandhi
Anandhi, a Tamil Nadu native IAS official of the 2007 batch, will be responsible for taking the helm of the JDA. The pioneering leader made history in 2018 as the first woman to be appointed as the Collector of Udaipur. She is set to play a crucial role in the upcoming few months as the capital city gets set for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit in December 2024, hosting dignitaries from various countries.
Arti Dogra
Arti Dogra became an IAS officer in 2006, remarkably clearing the civil services exam on her first attempt. The Uttarakhand-born official is an alumna of the prestigious Welham Girls School and Lady Shri Ram College. Dogra, who is of short stature, overcame discrimination against her disability and gender to become an important member of the Rajasthan bureaucracy. She will be responsible for the sustained electricity supply in the State.
Gayatri Rathore
Gayatri Rathore, the new principal secretary of the medical and health family welfare department, is an IAS officer of the 1997 batch. In over two decades of service, the bureaucrat has handled several significant profiles like tourism, culture, women & children, literature, etc. Her immediate responsibility will be to oversee issues like vector-borne diseases brought on by the monsoon.
Shuchi Tyagi
IAS Shuchi Tyagi will be responsible for the transport department in the state, as the new Commissioner. She will be overseeing reliable public transportation, which is also one of the crucial topics that will be spotlighted at the Investors Summit in Jaipur in December.
Some more bureaucrats who have been given important designations include Tina Dabi, the high-profile bureaucrat, who has been appointed as the Collector of Barmer. Dabi made headlines in 2015 as the first Dalit candidate to top the competitive Civil Services examination. She was earlier the District Collector for Jaisalmer.
