Four men have been arrested for reportedly gangraping and brutally thrashing a 25-year-old woman in Gurgaon, Haryana. The incident took place in DLF Phase 2, late Saturday night. All four accused are in their 20s and were identified and arrested within hours of the crime. The survivor suffered head injuries and has been hospitalised in Gurgaon.
Assistant Commission of Police (DLF) Karan Goel reportedly said about the accused, “While (one) works as an office boy at a property dealer’s office, the other three work as delivery boys with online food platforms in Gurgaon. All four hail from Banka district in Bihar and were living on rent in Chakkarpur."

Gurgaon Gang Rape : Police Says Survivor A Sex Worker
According to the police, one of the accused met up with the woman, who they claimed is a sex worker, on Saturday night. At Sikanderpur Metro station, she allegedly got on his bike and headed towards a property dealer's office where he was employed. There, she found three other men waiting for her.
She resisted their attempts, and as a result, was beaten up by them, and had her head banged against the wall. "She suffered a deep cut on her head," said ACP Goel. After this, the men each took turns to rape her.
Following the crime, the accused left the woman outside the office and fled the scene. Security guards nearby heard her screaming for help and rushed to the spot, whereupon they called the police. "The woman is stable... and is undergoing treatment," ACP Goel said.

Rising Rape Crimes In The Past Few Days
There is currently a nationwide outcry against rape crimes after a 19-year old Dalit woman was gang raped by four upper-caste men in Hathras and succumbed to her injuries on September 29 at a Delhi hospital. Her family claimed that the Uttar Pradesh police had cremated her body in the dead of night without their consent, and had also pressurised them to change their stance on the rape allegations. The further handling of the case by the UP government also widely criticised, as media entry was blocked in the state and journalist Tanushree Pandey's phone was tapped.

Other reports of rape have also come in following the Hathras incident, most notably from Balrampur, where another Dalit woman was reportedly gang raped and killed on Tuesday. The 22-year-old woman was a college student and worked in a private firm. According to the family, she went to pay the fees of her college and was abducted and gang raped on her way back.
The latest data by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows increased figures of reported crimes against women in 2019 - nearly 4,06,000 incidents. It was a rise from 2018 when 3,70,000 cases were reported, showing an increase of 7.3 percent.
