The four accused persons in the Hyderabad veterinarian gang rape and murder case - Mohammad Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen, and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu - have been shot dead in a police encounter in Shadnagar early Friday morning (December 6). Reports say that the Cyberabad police team took the four accused to the same location from where they had recovered the charred body of the woman at the NH-44 near Hyderabad to reconstruct the crime scene at around 3 a.m. and the accused persons tried to escape after which the police opened fire and shot all four of them.
"Four accused in Hyderabad rape-murder case killed in crossfire in wee hours today," Cyberabad police Commissioner V C Sajjanar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The bodies of the four men have been taken to Shadnagar government hospital. Three police personnel were also injured in the crossfire, according to Cyberabad police sources.
DCP Prakash Reddy, who is at the scene of the incident, told TNM that there was crossfire as the accused took the guns of the policemen and attempted to escape. The incident happened between 6 and 6.30 am, he said.
The father of the veterinarian has lauded the action taken by the Telangana government and expressed his gratitude towards them. "My daughter's soul must be at peace now," India Today reports. Victim's sister said, "We are happy. We did not expect this (killing in encounter). We thought they would be hanged through courts."
"We thank everyone who stood by us. With this incident people should be scared to indulge in such crimes (against women),” she told reporters.

Even the mother of December 2012 gang rape and murder in Delhi, Nirbhaya's mother, Asha Devi has also applauded the encounter as she said that she is extremely happy with the justice given to the accused persons. She also demanded that no action should be taken against the Telangana police.
"We thank everyone who stood by us. With this incident people should be scared to indulge in such crimes (against women)”
"I have been running from pillar to post for the last seven years. I appeal to the justice system of this country and the government, that Nirbhaya's culprits must be hanged to death, at the earliest," she said.
The four men were accused of brutally raping a 26-year-old woman who was a veterinarian and was going back home from her workplace. They were arrested on November 29 a day after the body of the woman was found. The court had remanded to 7-days of judicial custody.
Meanwhile former Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi in a tweet posted by ANI has said, "Jo hua hai bohot bhayanak hua hai desh ke liye. You can't take law in your hands, they(accused) would've been hanged by Court anyhow.
