Footballer Tanvie Hans Is First Woman To Play In Men's League

Tanvie Hans, the first Indian-origin football player who has played for the Tottenham Hotspur ladies' team, has added another feather in her hat. The trailblazer has started to compete in The Amateur League in Bengaluru, a competition known to be dominantly played by men. With this feat, Tanvie has become the first woman footballer to play in men's league in India.

Tanvie Hans is not a new name on the field. She is one of the biggest players in Indian women’s football. The Delhi-born girl has played for UK clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham. Unfortunately, with her British passport in pocket, Tanvie could not represent the national side till now, but she does dream of playing for India.

Tanvie’s love for football was born at a young age while playing for school, college and university teams. She is on an India tour now and has grabbed the limelight for taking part in The Amateur League (TAL).

The 25-year-old footballer is also the captain of her all-men team. She is representing Cult FC in the league.

The only woman in the team was determined to show a kickass performance. However, Cult FC, which she represented, could not win the game and had a 2-1 loss at the hands of Bhaowkali FC.

Though, they lost the game, the stellar performance overall made the former Tottenham Hotspur winger take to social media to laud her teammates for the great effort they put in.

Tanvie’s path-breaking stint came in the wake after TAL announced plans for a gender-balanced game earlier this week.
