The recent trend in flight bookings can be likened to gambling, as cancelling a flight often results in the risk of losing a substantial amount of money or, in some cases, paying even more than the original booking cost. This comparison gained traction with a tweet by IAS officer Rahul Kumar, who humorously shared his experience of receiving a mere ₹20 refund for a ticket worth ₹13,000. The tweet sparked a comical chain of comments, highlighting the frustrations and humour surrounding flight cancellations and refunds.
Cancelling flight tickets can often lead to disappointment due to high costs and minimal refunds. The policies for flight bookings often result in substantial deductions from the original payment, even when cancellations are made shortly after booking.
This was the experience of Rahul Kumar, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, who shared a screenshot of his meagre Rs 20 refund after cancelling a ticket originally priced at Rs 13,820. The vast difference between the ticket price and the refund amount amused and attracted attention from the online community.
Flight Cancellation Refund Of ₹20
Taking a humorous approach, Kumar tweeted along with the screenshot, requesting suggestions for good investment plans for his refund. The airline had charged a cancellation fee of Rs 11,800, a GI cancellation fee of Rs 1,200, and a convenience fee of Rs 800. The discrepancy between the cancellation charges and the actual refund of Rs. 20 caught many by surprise.

The tweet, which gained significant attention after being shared on Tuesday, July 11, has received more than 5,200 likes and sparked various reactions from internet users. IFS officer Parveen Kaswan responded to the post, humorously suggesting that with such a small refund amount, extra security would be required to safeguard the funds.
In response to the viral tweet, users on social media offered humorous suggestions and reactions. One user recommended donating the refund to a charity and claiming tax returns, while another comment expressed a preference for the seat to remain empty rather than the airline reselling it to another passenger. Rahul Kumar's positive and cheerful outlook regarding his minimal refund resonated with many, prompting an influx of replies and amusing suggestions for his limited amount of money.
