Christine Angelica Dacera, a 23-year-old flight attendant was found dead in the bathtub of City Garden, a four-star hotel in the city of Makati Manila, Philippines, where she checked in to celebrate the new year’s eve with her friends. Around 10 am, Dacera was spotted unconscious by her colleague identified as Rommel Galida, who took her to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The Philippine National Police suspected 11 men of gangrape and arrested three men, identified as John Pascual Dela Serna III, 27, Rommel Daluro Galida, 29, and John Paul Reyes Halili, 25, under the charges of the crime of “rape with homicide.”
While Dacera’s family alleged that her friends were responsible for the young woman's death, the case took a massive turn when the suspects claimed that they were ‘sexually interested in men’ and that they had never been aroused by a woman around.
However, the latest report by the PNP Crime Laboratory classified her death as "natural" based on the available information. “An aneurysm is common to senior citizens but it may also be experienced by younger people “due to other factors,” the report explained, even citing that aneurysms can be caused by “increased blood pressure” as in the case of Dacera.
The report further explained that the continuous increase in Dacera’s blood pressure in the aorta weakened the defect which eventually burst. “The loss of blood due to the ruptured aorta killed her within a few hours,” the report mentioned.
However, Sharon Dacera, mother of Christine Dacera continues to believe a foul play in her daughters' death. Meanwhile, Dacera’s friends who pled innocence in her death and alleged rape case, said they hope that her family accepts the report that rules out homicide charges and proves that their daughter died of a natural cause.
