Puducherry Man Held For Collecting Nudes Of Women After Impersonating As Fitness Coach

A Puducherry youth has been arrested on charges of using Instagram to impersonate a woman coach and convincing women users to send their nude photographs on the pretext of providing suggestions for the betterment of their body shape. He then used the photographs to threaten them, according to officials.

Dhivagar, a native of Muthialpet in Puducherry, had been working in a private pharma firm, according to the police who seized his phone on Wednesday and discovered up to ten naked recordings. The device was sent to be thoroughly examined. An officer stated that if the police hear other complaints from women, they will open fresh cases. According to the authorities, Dhivagar launched an Instagram page offering fitness advice and received inquiries from a handful of ladies.

"The accused, posing as a female fitness teacher, made comments and afterwards asked for images to improve their body structure." The women were then persuaded to send their naked photographs for better suggestions to be made. The woman gave their naked photographs and videos because she trusted the perpetrator. "Just after a few days, the man came up and sent those photographs to the same women via another account which was operated by him only, and threatened to make them viral if they refused to come on a nude video call with him," an officer stated.

The problem was brought to light after a resident filed a complaint with the cybercrime police, requesting that Dhivagar be prosecuted. The Puducherry Police have asked ladies not to share their photographs and videos with strangers on the internet.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the number of reported cases of cybercrime is increasing year after year. In 2019, 44,546 incidences of cybercrime were reported across India. As a culture, we must ask ourselves what it is that some of us find pleasant about invading a woman's privacy and modesty without her agreement.

Moreover, when something goes wrong with them, we frequently deprive women of basic help because we tend to blame them for everything. Shouldn't our priority be to provide them with justice?
