20-year-old Morgan Mikenas, a fitness blogger from Indiana, US, has decided that she will not shave her body hair anymore. She announced her decision ">in a Youtube video that quickly went viral, amassing over 1.3 million views.
“I stopped shaving because it was an inconvenience. It’s pointless. I feel like it’s an act of submission to the male-dominated culture we live in. I want to mindfully make decisions for myself, and make choices that serve my purpose. Shaving my legs makes me feel powerless,” she says.
She says that shaving took so much time, and she remembers feeling insecure about having body hair as a pre-teen. She says that she hopes she can be an inspiration to others who are thinking about not shaving, but haven’t stopped doing it yet.
"I'm not trying to make all of humanity just stop shaving their armpits and leg hair any more... I just want to inspire others. What works for you? What makes you most comfortable?" she says
She also addresses how women get teased for having body hair, and said that there is so much more to life than outer appearance.
“I just want to be comfortable in myself,” ">she says.
She is unafraid of posting pictures of herself with her body hair showing.
"I'm fully aware that my body hair is clearly visible in this picture, and that's the whole reason I posted it. I've have been getting beautiful emails from females who I inspired to stop removing their body hair and have helped send them on their journey of self love. For that reason I refuse to stop sharing my natural self. So if that is a problem, go ahead and unfollow me!” she says in one of her posts on Instagram.
Many women have stopped shaving their body hair.. Body-confidence activist Harnaam Kaur is another woman who is comfortable with letting her body and facial hair grow.
