Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a lockdown over the state for one week which is an extension of the previous lockdown in light of the surge of COVID-19 cases. On the brighter side, the first batch of the Sputnik-V vaccine reached Indian on May 1.
As of May 1 marks the first day of the commencement of the Sputnik-V vaccine, the day also records the highest ever cases that exceeded the 4,01,993 mark, setting a new global record of single-day infections.

The first batch of the Russian vaccine has reached the state of Hyderabad near 4 pm on May 1. After Covishield and Covaxin, Sputnik-V is the third vaccine to be used in India.

Kejriwal Extends Lockdown On The Same Day
The national capital is experiencing overwhelming pressure on the health system amid the surge in COVID-19 cases. The Chief Minister of Delhi extended the already imposed lockdown in the city by a week amidst this crisis.

The lockdown was first imposed on April 19 for one week and was supposed to end on April 26, but the growing number of cases led to its extension twice. During the first extension, Kejriwal said that the lockdown was the last resort against the rising cases in Delhi but later he said it has become necessary to impose restrictions.
According to the previous extension, the lockdown was supposed to end on May 3.
"We took opinions from the people and everybody said that the lockdown should be extended. It is now being extended in Delhi for another week till 5 am next Monday (3 May),” He said in a briefing.
