An FIR has been registered against Sasikala under four Sections 506 (1), 507, 109 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.

The minister who filed the complaint stated that Sasikala and her followers issued death threats to him on social media and over phone calls.
DCP V Ganesan, who was quoted by Hindustan Times said that Shanmugam filed a complaint about a week ago saying that he received around 500 calls threatening him with death. He also said that the police are tracking all the call details and will issue a summon soon.

The FIR comes a day after 11 resolutions were passed by AIADMK in favour of Sasikala saying that she should head the party and strengthen it.

Sasikala was released from jail in January this year after completing a four-year sentence in a disproportionate assets case and was then admitted to Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru for treatment of COVID-19. In February, she said that she will take part in active politics and in March this year, the politician announced that she will "stay away" from politics but will pray for the "golden rule" of Amma (referring to late J.Jayalalithaa).

In her statement, Sasikala said that she will stay away from politics and will keep praying for her sister Puratchi Thalaivi (Jayalalithaa), whom she considers God and the Lord Almighty for the establishment of the golden rule of Amma.

However, according to a report, a source close to Sasikala said that she is considering options to make a comeback in politics in the coming three months. The source added that Sasikala calls at least seven to 10 people on a daily basis and her message to them about her coming back was clear.
